Revolution in Education in Nepal

Too many people questions on the teaching method in Nepal. Similarly, students do not show interest to study. It is understood that the curriculum itself is often becoming burdensome for them. However, if you ask anyone in the world, there are very few people who deeply enjoy reading in school. Teachers are also found to be complaining about teaching profession. The root cause of all this is  we are not accepting the demand of time. Religious scriptures suggests  teacher is best source of knowledge. But why the thinking of teachers about their own job is depleting?
In my opinion, there are three reasons behind this problem:
1. It is written in the Education Act that "no physical or mental torture can be done to students." But so far the teachers were teaching the students by beating them. After the rule of non-beating came, teachers could not change themselves accordingly. So today they are cursing their profession.
2. The emergence of grading system and no fail system enabled students to pass even if they did not study. It became difficult for teachers to collect huge amount of money from students under the pretext of coaching and tuition. Monthly Salary alone won't solve their economic problem.
3. A person who wants to become a doctor/an engineer/a great professional in future gets stuck in teaching job due to their family financial problems. Those personalities becomes teacher who does not get other opportunities, doesn't even want to go abroad or don't have guts to risk in business.

Since, these things are problems and there would be no point in writing this article if i keep on complaining about them. The significance of this article does not come from complaining about the problem, but from finding a solution. So here I am writing about the steps government should take in order to solve it. In my opinion, We should work on following four sections for the solution:

I. Work on the students: First thing first, the student should be prepared in such a way that he/she is disciplined. Discipline encompasses all other dimensions. If a child is disciplined: - he/she will focus and concentrate on studies, -he/she will understand the importance of time, -he/she can manage stress with age, -he/she can encourage others, -he/she will bear capacity to lead and many more. These things are important for life. Scores in exams are secondary things.
II. Work on the teacher: The teacher always talked, yelled, shouted. But the level of education in Nepal hasn't risen. A teacher should know how to listen instead of speaking. A teacher should speak little and even one word he/she speaks should be able to give lifelong knowledge to the student. A person who compares a student with another student should not be eligible to be a teacher. One who becomes a teacher should not make comparisons between students. He should respect all students. A teacher should always be eager to learn as well as to teach. One whose passion is teaching should become a teacher. A teacher should motivate meritorious students to join politics and education field in future. If the political and education sector goes in good hands, Nepal will really be the heaven in world.
III. Work in teaching: If the most ineffective method of teaching exists anywhere in the world, then it is in Nepal. If we remember the history, the teaching practice of our 'Gurukula' was the best in the world. As we assimilated the education system of the western countries, we became dreadful. Returning back to the old Gurukul system is not a good option now because it's not the demand of time. We are killing the future manpower of our country by introducing them with such system which Western countries have used for a trial and left it. We shouldn't rejoice in this. A question arises  What can be done then? First we should search, research and study the topic  "Where is the best education system in the world?" As far as I understand, Finland's education system is one of the most praised education system in the world. Their method should be implemented here in Nepal. As in Finland, we should give freedom to the teachers in order to create their own curriculum. Non-academic methods such as play method and exploration method should be used for teaching children till the age of 7 years. In Finland, teachers having skills of handicrafts, carpentry and music are prioritized. Nepal should focus on such teachers too who have skills and can give knowledge using the skills they have. Rote learning should be strictly prohibited. Education should be managed in such a way that, children do not have to pay any kind of fees to study, except in some areas of the university. There should be very little homework. A lot of emphasis should be given in physical and sports activities. If we implement similar things in Nepal, we can make revolution in education system.
IV. Work in learning: There are also four ways of learning. The first is learning by listening, the second is learning through pictures/videos, the third is learning by participating in activities and the fourth is learning by writing. However, there are other methods like technology based learning, group learning, etc. By studying such subjects, epoch-making changes can be brought in the level of education.

Finally, memorizing and writing in the exam is also cheating. Some write it down on paper, some in their minds. Did something change? So knowledge is greater than education. Teaching should be knowledge oriented.
